Song Guesser combines public factual metadata, transparent editorial work, and a deterministic daily rotation.
Metadata
Core song facts such as titles, artists, years, and MusicBrainz identifiers are sourced from MusicBrainz, a community-maintained database released under CC0. We keep one canonical studio entry per song and remove live versions, remasters, and duplicate spellings.
Editorial clues
Emoji clues are written as broad visual associations with the song title or theme. They are not lyric excerpts or encoded lyric puzzles. Editorial notes are short factual context written for this game and do not quote lyrics.
Daily selection
A versioned seeded selector uses the UTC date, round number, and content version. It balances difficulty and prevents duplicate artists within a day. Published dates are intended to remain stable when the catalog grows.
Public-domain melodies
Classic Melody Quiz uses original Web Audio arrangements of compositions whose underlying works are in the public domain. No commercial recording, copyrighted MIDI, or protected modern composition is included.
